In 1996, 2000, and 2001, he was arrested for possession of heroin, cocaine, and valium. Also, in 1996, while under the influence of drugs, Downey had entered a neighborââ¬â¢s home and fell asleep on one of the beds. He was charged with unlawful entry and sentenced on probation for three years. Also in 1996, Downey was pulled over by a police officer and was found in possession of cocaine, heroin, and a gun (People Magazine). Downey had experienced many mood episodes from 1996 to 2001, also had an addiction to cocaine, in which he would fall in and out of relapse, constantly abused alcohol, and suffered from depression. Also had Downey lost custody of his son because of previous arrests, drug abuse, use and possession, which lead to his suffering from depression (Aamp;E Entertainment). Axis II: R/O No personality disorders were discovered nor any level mental retardation. Axis II: R/O No history of medical or neurological conditions were found. Axis IV: Problems with Primary Support Group Robert Downey Jr. ââ¬â¢s father was a drug addict and he was surrounded by drugs throughout his childhood, at the age of 8 his irresponsible father had let him smoke marijuana for the first time. His parents divorced at the age of 13, and Downey lived his irresponsible in Los Angeles for three years. Being surrounded by drugs, Dowey began using at the young age of 16. (Aamp;E Entertainment). As Downey, was growing up, he was always surrounded by drugs because drugs became an emotion bond between him and his father. Downey said that, When [his father and him] would do drugs together, it was like [his father was] trying to express his love for [Downey] in the only way he knew how. (Aamp;E Entertainment). Problems relating to social environment- Robert Downey Jr. became an actor at a young age and because he lived in Los Angeles for a few years, he began to adapt to the Hollywood lifestyle. Becoming famous for many known movies, comes with the source of money which contributed to his cocaine and heroin access. (People). Problems relating to occupational stress- Being an actor, pressures of making great movies, along with the rich and dazzling Hollywood life, it became stressful for Downey and he began to use to relieve stress. It is possible to say that Downey felt that alcohol and drugs were an escape from the pressure from work, but did not realize that it was becoming an addiction. (Aamp;E Entertainment). Axis V: GAF = 70. On a daily basis his functioning would be normal. But there are times when he would fall below. Previously, his GAF couldââ¬â¢ve been 50, he had difficulty with his social or occupational life without the dependence of drug or alcohol. He also would show signs of depression and mood swings during his period of relapse. There are times when his GAF would fall below 50, since his first wife and him and divorced and he lost custody battle to his son, because of his drug abuse and alcoholism, which interfered with his life. Robert Downey Jr. couldââ¬â¢ve sought out a therapist or psychologist for his issues, no articles posted if he did or not, but just that he sought out rehabilitation for his drug abuse and alcoholism. But early therapy couldââ¬â¢ve potentially helped him from becoming addicted or dependence on drugs and alcohol because he wouldââ¬â¢ve been talking to a professional about his problems or stress from work. It is obvious that because of his irresponsible father, it cause Robert Downey Jr. o feel that drugs did not seem like a negative image, possibly living with his mother couldââ¬â¢ve been a better decision from the start of the divorced instead of choosing the live with his father for a few years.
